How to do it
6 stepsSit in the leg press machine and place your feet shoulder-width apart on the lower part of the platform, so your heels hang off the edge.
Release the safety stops and straighten your legs with your knees staying slightly bent. Your torso and legs form a right angle.
Lower the platform by letting your toes bend your ankles slowly toward you until your calves stretch.
Exhale and push through the balls of your feet, lifting your heels as high as you can.
Hold the top for about a second, then inhale and return slowly.
Repeat for the planned reps, then lock the stops before leaving the machine.
Keep the knees fixed in the same slightly bent position. Moving them turns the lift into a leg press and takes load off your calves.
Only the balls of your feet touch the platform, so watch for your feet slipping and move deliberately.
Work one leg at a time, or point your toes in, straight, or out to vary the emphasis.
